back to basics
Hi, I recently bot a Leica IIIa in a sad state. Just found out I am missing the counter gears! The frame counter and take-up spindle were loose. I managed to mount the whole thing correctly but now I run into missing parts.
Also missing are the front rings around the rangefinder windows.
Can anyone help me to these parts?
Before you mention, I will ask DAG about them.
I already got myself a baseplate.
I am getting there!
Other question: is the slow speed mechanism interchangeable between the IIIa and the IIf series?
Thanks!

Sorry, yes. I intend to turn my IIf into a IIIf.

An intact IIf is now rare, asmost have been already converted, it might be possible to swap a IIf or sell and buy at profit!
If it is nice copndition please be careful, think of wallet thickness.

Thanks Noel, my IIf is well used, brassed but very functional except for the flash. But who uses flash anyway on these cameras.
Maybe I should not mess with it.

So I tinkered together some rings from my russian pieces box and it works as frame counter, excellent!
Now all I need are the windows...

the slow speed escapment mechanisim on the IIIa is different than what is on a IIIf BD & RD.

Unless you object to Zorki-1 parts, Oleg has my IIIA (1938) right now replacing the two front bezels, glass and slow speed knob/screw. He can no doubt also send you the parts. Good luck!

Are you sure the slow speed mechanism is missing ? I once had a iif, and if I remember right,
the mechanism was in there just not connected (was
surprised myself). Maybe you just need arm and slow speed dial.

the red dial IIf has a simplified escapment to achive the 1/25 of a sec. shutter speed.
remember, on a red dial the curtain running speed is 1/50 of a sec.
