I know that the ST was omitted when (re)introducing the M form factor with the M4-2, possibly as a measure to reduce cost. However, when the M4-P came out the M concept had reproven itself, but still the ST didn't return. And even today with the MP, it hasn't. The battery compartment is in the way, sure, but that could easily be placed somewhere else, I guess.

Guess I'm not much of a self-timer person. Even though the ST has a hidden feature as 2-sec exposure setting. B with ST gives 2 sec exposure.
By now the ST is inoperative, almost behind the GMP grip.

I can honestly say, I've not once used a self timer with an RF - simply doesn't factor into the way I shoot with this type of camera.

They do make ones that screw into the shutter release - if you miss it that much.

I use self timers, too, on tripods and in available light when leaning
against something. I miss them on my M2 (one of thise without) and M6.

I was also surprised that from the R2 on Bessas were missing ST,
while the Bessa R still had one.

I have almost never used it on a Leica, but you can get accessory STs that screw into the shutter release for emergencies.
I know, nobody really misses the ST. When it's not there, well you don't miss it. Only thing is that it would look great on the MP. Think about an MP looking like an M2 with two of those nice levers on the front.

Inbuilt self-timers are an advanced technology that Leica AG never possessed. When you handle the old mechanical doohickeys (like the Visoflex system), you realize that Leitz Wetzlar had formidable skills in metalworking, finishing, and general mechanical design. Solms cannot even grease their lenses properly! Posted on RFF a few months ago was the story of the Nikon S3/SP reissue, including the recreation of an authentic ST. Even for Nikon, that piece was a Herculean task.

I have an ST on the M4, while the Bessa-T goes without one. I find it a must have for available light landscape shots.. main reason I have the M4 with me most of the time, even though the T lies somewhat better in the hand.
