Mistake with 500c/m - forgot to wind frame counter before shooting

Hi folks,

In a rush to change the film magazine for my Hasselblad 500c/m, I forgot to wind to frame “1” after loading. I didn’t realize this until I had fired and recocked the lens shutter. After realizing, I wound the magazine to frame 1 and retook the shot.

The camera isn’t jammed up, so there’s that, but I was wondering if the placement of the frames will be off and if I should just not bother with the 12th frame.

I’ll find out eventually when I develop the roll, but I was hoping someone might know off the top of their head.

The leader would have been off by one frame so yes you have lost a frame. I would shoot the 12th frame anyway. With the older “12” backs I normally got 13 frames so there is a chance you are ok.

Happened to me so many times! The good news is, your camera is not in any danger. The bad news is, you will lose a few frames.
You can shoot up to the 12th frame without problem. The lost frames will be at the other end of the roll. (someone, please correct me if I get this totally mixed-up)

You might increase the spacing between frames as well after winding on after one frame is taken. I know I’ve done this once.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I’ve got a bit more peace of mind knowing what’s likely ahead now. I think I’ll probably trying shooting that last 12th frame but just make sure it’s a duplicate or something I’m comfortable losing.

Update: I've finished shooting and developing the roll. Somewhat surprisingly, there's no apparent difference between the mistake roll and a normal roll. All 12 frames line up with the printed numbers. The frames are actually shifted ever so slightly forward.

My guess is that any winding via the gear that connects to the body also counts as winding to get to the automatic stop at "1" in the counter.
