mixing up some Diafine

They're looking pretty good. I'll do some printing to night and psot a couple I've already noticed. No streaking, just some water marks.

Here are a few pictures from tonight. It's after 1am but I want to share with you guys and gals.

I quite like the results of APX100 in Diafine. The fine grain (I'm used to hp5+ in Ilfosol or D76) and the tonality remind me of MF results. This is a very good thing!
The negs were great (not at all flat) and I printed at grade 2 1/2 on MC RC paper.
The camera was a Bessa R with a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. (Thanks Brian!)

Victor, you will remember the radical biker and the old biker from the day we met in Stouffville and you bought a Canon 85mm lens from me. (How's it working for you?)

I have a few more pics from these 5 rolls but this is it for tonight!

Comments welcomed.

I can see why you're pleased, Frank; they look really good. And with some difficult situations with all that chrome for one, and the quartering light from the rear for another...

Frank, what was your EI for APX100 in Diafine, 100, 200, 250, something else?

That looks good. I've been souping APX100 in Rodinal 1:50 for 17min's and the reaction to APX100 in Diafine seems to be mixed. At least I have a good example now... I'll give it try and then compare.

Then you'll see a world of difference.
However if you are using Rodinal 1+50 try adding some ascorbate [4 g/l] as per the unblinkingeye articel
It makes a lot of difference in grain and tonality.
I put 1/2 teaspoon in 400 ml of water, than add bakng soda slowly until the fizzing subsides and then mix the rodinal in. Dev time is the same as for 1+25.

Since I'm used to HP5+, I'm very pleased to see such fine grain in the focussing device I use to focus the enlarger.

These are from a couple of months ago when I bought a very nice Canon 85/2.0 from Frank. They were taken the same day as Frank's biker pictures. The Canon/Serenar was mounted on a Leica M4-2. A homemade shade was used.

I should get mine possibly before I hit Adventureland this week..maybe after. I'm going to dev my Pan-F in it. Wonder how it'll be shot at ISO 100...

David Vestal did some experiments about hard vs. soft tap water years ago, but I forget what they proved.
I always use distilled for anything I deem important developing. Water is cheap compared to re-shooting.

Hi Stephanie -- Looks great for me at EI 50... Going to 100 might be, errr, pushing it a bit! 🙂

And I agree with Poptart's use of distilled water for mixing chemicals, unless you have another source of naturally soft water. >sudden memory link< Like the roof-top rain-barrels typical of vacation cottages and houses on the penninsula west of Izmir Turkey, out toward Çesme (sounds like "Cheshmeh") where terrorists have recently set off bombs.
