I have just spent a fantastic hour in Birmingham City centre just shooting street shots with my Mju I and a roll of Tri-X. Very liberating experience it was too, from the fact that to all and sundry I was invisible ! I have come to the conclusion that eye level shooting is far less obtrusive than someone shooting with an arms out stance and a digi compact. The clamshell design and palm size helps too !

Mine is still in use. Great little camera with very few but just enough controls.

I've often take my Mju-I along because it's so carefree to use. And with only 3 buttons, one of which is the shutter.. how much simpler can it get? Granted, there's a midroll rewind pressamajig hidden somewhere on the front, but who needs that anyway? Given it's lowly status, the image quality is quite surprising (in a good way) as well.
And what's more, how can you not like a camera that's shaped like this?

In 2012 at first day in Vancouver I purchased Oly XA. It was camera which set me free. From DSLRs on the street and fear to get close and frame it with eye and camera to the face. Before this trip I was digital hipstaker and teletuneler. On this trip I left DSLR in the room for first time and went with XA and Bessa R, film only.
XA is dead now, but dozens of rolls in this little Oly helped me not be afraid with SLRs, RF and DSLRs and even TLRs (also possible) right to my face and in front of strangers.
You are visible with any size of the camera, but fear is less if camera small.
It is your fear only, not the size, color and visibility of the camera.

Maybe. Fear doesn't enter into it, but I'm pretty sure nobody takes me seriously if I'm using my red XA2. The reactions look more like pity. Poor bloke either can't afford a real camera or just doesn't know...

While I loved my Mju, later I enjoyed some other compacts without moving barrier design which implies risk of shutting off camera suddenly (depends on way one hold camera, of course).
One is for sure - Mju at its time were clear leader yet looked very distinctively and broke belief only big camera can help to take decent pictures. Before Mju XA series did the same, I guess.

With trashed M4-2, which is gripped and goggled on top of it, I'm even more goofier and more forgiven.
And with worn Rolleicord and matching dusty dressing style, people thinks it is donation box, not the camera.

The Mju I is a good enough camera, fast to use and I don't think it shoots slower than 1/30 which is something I liked. Was never a fan of the lens though (tried 3 copies) and the AF wasn't much good. Curious about the XA series but opted for a Rollei 35 SE, which I love. Most people think it's a digital if they realise it's a camera at all.

I prefer the XA, but the Mju-I is still a very nice unobtrusive camera to use on the street. I've mostly preferred smaller cameras in any format/design - XA, OM, FM/FE, 124G, folders... but I suspect having small hands has something to do with that!

The Mju-I manual gives the following extremes for shutter speed:
Exposure with 100ISO
--------------------
EV 7.5 1/15 f3.5
EV 17.0 1/500 f16
AF accuracy hasn't been much of a problem for me.. you just need to give it some time.. The lens is a simple one indeed, and there are better ones, but that can be forgiven if you consider the price of the Mju-I at the time..

Ah right you are, 1/15th limit being pretty handy also. It's possible I've been not using the AF in an optimal way, though I never had any issues with the second generation Mju cameras. I still have one last copy of it somewhere, I'll probably give it another try next time I'm rock climbing or on a boat or something.

The best part, apart from the price of the lowly mju-I and XA2 is that they are almost always the fastest to get out and snap away with. If you want grab shots then they are the kings. There's dearer of course and some say better lenses but few people use the camera at the limit of the lens when it comes to printing or enlarging.

Still have one, great for the glovebox.
I actually prefer my Infinity Jr, which is even cheaper.
Might have to throw the mju to the classifieds! Like the other 4 ive owned.
