I would like to know if FED 1 serial 31 to 289000 can take modern film inside ?
Thank you
With another words : FED 1 with shutter speeds : 1/20s, 1/30s, 1/40s, 1/60s, 1/100s, 1/200s, 1/500s + Z can take modern film ?
I am asking because I am looking for FED 1 and on e b a y , seller kubanoid written "I could not to place modern 35mm magazine into the chamber, it is usual thing with some examples of old FED & Zorki cameras, only old type cassettes can be used." His FED 1 has serial 404622, shutter speeds from B to 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500sec.

It is very tight on mine, I tried a 35mm roll and the felt liner caused the film to jam up. Mine starts with SN 22xxxx, was made in 1952.

I have been wandering about the house picking up old and old-ish FED-1's and trying a Kodak, Ilford and Fuji cassette in them and an elderly FP3 cassette.

The cameras range from 19xxx (1936) to 1955 with many from the 30's and I had no problems with the empty cassettes going in and mostly dropping out again...

I vaguely seem to remember some Leicas and and so on having this problem due to the soft bodies being squeezed over time, if that's any help.

Regards, David

The first Fed 1 that I had- the cartridge went in very tight, like the one I have now. I filed the chamber down "ever so slightly" to fix the issue.
