Modification of olympus mju-ii to retain flash settings

I can't count the amount of times I have read on here someone quibbling the mju-ii and it's inability to retain flash setting when the lens cover is closed...

I have come up with a solution (which may well have been done before???) to somewhat solve this issue ... It does bring a different issue to the table, but it's a compromise I am comfortable with ...

A couple of folks have said that now ... its really not a big or hard job with the right tools!

I went shooting with it this afternoon, I can honestly say I felt the usability was definitely improved!

If I understand correctly, the camera remains 'on' permanently albeit with the cover closed. How's this for the batteries, don't they wear out fast?

As I say in the article

I was also concerned about the battery usage … This battery worry was put to bed quite quickly though as if you leave the door open/camera on for more than maybe 5 minutes the camera switches itself into standby.

The battery life would be affected, but hopefully not a great deal due to the standby mode.

I have only just done it so I am yet to ascertain the effect completely, but it's been a day or so and all is well so far ...

Im going to add more to the article if anything untoward happens, i'll keep this post updated too if folks are interested ... ?

This is why people obsess with fixed lens rangefinders, I guess. Nice try, though, from point of view of DIY.

One thing I will say about the flash on this camera: it has the BEST fill flash of any (auto) camera I've used. I know that the flash setting is a problem, but I hope this doesn't destroy the fill flash ability.

Instinct is a fine thing, I sometimes check still...



One thing I note this morning after leaving the camera on all night, it had crashed this morning. I had to take te battery out and put it back in. I'll see if it happens again and report back.

I've been wondering if taking the battery out at night is a good idea anyway...
