modified summicron-c

I just bought a Summicron-C (modified to bring up the 35mm frame lines) from PCB_RF here at the classifieds last week and waiting for it to arrive. 🙂 I will give it a test (How I like it compared to my Summilux 35 pre-ASPH) and then decide if keeping or not....

Cheers,

maddoc

Sure !🙂 I will do after I have shot ~ one or two rolls. Some example shots are also in Ned's (NB23) thread "Action with the Summicron 40-C" ... (don't remember the correct title....😱)

Thanks for mentioning, Doc! 🙂

Here is the 40mm thread and here is the 35mm summilux pre-asph thread.

IMO, the 40 can't compare to the legendary and unique 35 summilux but it's still quite a good lens. Since the 40 is good and cheap, it's worth to keep just for the sake of it (carry in a pocket while shooting with another lens)... But when I'm out with the 35, I don't mix it with any other lens. I keep the experience whole and intact 🙂

Oh yes I saw some of those they look really nice. I've been on a 40mm binge at the moment. I get bored with 35mm and 50mm and I have a 21mm for fun wides. I figure the 40mm is a good in between a 21mm and an 85mm.

I use a franken M6/M4 and frame the 21 with the 28 lines and the 40 with either the 35 or 50 lines (still can't decided which I prefer. ) That is though if i'm using the VF. Most of the time everything is done from the hip.

Thanks Justin but I already have a 40mm nokton (not modified), I'm planning on selling it because I think it's a tad on the big side and I don't like the out of focus rendition at f1.4, too many distracting points of light. Just my preference though.

I did have a 35mm f1.2 nokton for a while, amazing sharpness all across the frame and could be used at any aperture setting. Sold it because it was huge and heavy.

I'm looking at the summicoron-c A: because it is tiny, B: it's f2, which is a 1 stop slower than f1.4, when you're using neopan 1600 or even superia 800, I can hand hold the slow speeds and still get shrap images to my liking. C: $255 is cheaper than >$2000.

So if annyone has got a modified to bring up 35mm frame, cron-c that is in reasonable condition i.e. glass is flawless (don't really mind if lens barell has marks) and focus is not stiff and slow like my skopar PII. I'd be willing to offer somewhere in the range of $255 or so, give ore take $10-$20. (Should be cheaper because of modification right? Is that fair?)

Thanks everyone!

My theory, you can always carry more film of different speeds, lugging big lenses is not enjoyable for me, and more people notice when i've got a huge lens on my camera.

I figured the 40 was a good go between for me, I like 35mm and 50mm but the more I shoot with 40mm, the more I don't use the other 2 focal lengths.....just something different i guess.
