Just curious as to what the bidders were thinking. But then, it does have an Argus meter.

Sounds like too high to me.

It seems that people frequently and permissively overbid items
at Goodwill simple because the $ goes to charity.

It looks like a M version, synched and with a 50f2 Tokyo lens. Fairly scarce package and if the condition is as good as it looks - not badly priced at all.
NIKON KIU
Did you say Nippon Kogaku
Tom is right, that's not a Nikon S.
It has an M before the serial number.
It's a fairly early Nikon M synch. Along with a 5008xxxx series 5cm F2.0 lens(the earliest rigid version).
Darn, that thing looks clean.
Someone got a good deal.

Think Different
As Tom and Kiu have said, this is actually a Nikon M, or as some collectors call it, the MS (S for synch). The lens is fairly rare too, a "5008" series F2.0 Nikkor. Only about a thousand of the "5008" series Nikkor's were made before they changed the serial number sequence. $1,700 is actually low for this camera, most go for over $2,000. If it has the Nikon "quality assurance document" tucked away in the camera case someplace, it may be worth even more.

Well then, somebody knew what they were doing. I never would have known it was an M. Kinda like the Yashica GL I got for $30 because no one else (including the folks at Goodwill) seemed to be able to tell the difference from a GSN. I didn't bother to delve into the other photos they had of the 'S', so I might have seen that number. But then, it was already over my meager budget when I first saw it posted, so I just put it on the watch list to see where it wound up at. Learn something new every day here.
