Lunar New Year for the Chinese was just couple of days back. The chinese are considered one of the prominent races in Malaysia. Therefore, Lunar New Year are celebrated in a quite a big manner.

THe following photo show couple of monk (which i think are fake), waiting outside the temple, asking for donation.

First thing is Munks are not allowed to touch money so anytime you see them collecting cash its a bad sighn. The two in question seem to be sitting around like beggars which is in no way represenative of munks associated with Therevada Bhuddism which is what these two supposeed munks are garbed as. Thirdly the Chinese new year means nothing in Therevada Bhuddism, their new year is in April. This new year is associated with Mariyana Bhuddism which is a completely seperate thing. So far apart that I suggest the differences would be like confusing Roman Catholicism with Santeria because they both have priests. They are completely diffrent with seperate goals for daily life.

While I would have had to of been there for a confirmation my first guess is Mohamad is most likely correct that these are fake munks. If they are not they are for certain highly suspect and the problem of fake munks is a big one. Many times criminals see becoming a munk as a easy life and others who are kicked out just relocate and set up shop in a new area. Good call Mohamad and welcome to the forum. I plan to go to Langkawi in May as it stands, Are you interested in going there? I have another trip were working on now to go up to Luang Prabang in Laos on April 3rd till the 10th. You can read about that in the Members Only forum.
