Monochrom: Love or Not?

Vince I actually prefer to print my own work. Its rare I don't tweak the file a little after seeing the first print. Looking at an image on screen is not the same as viewing a print no matter how well you have calibrated. I, like when shooting film, could never trust that part to anyone else for my personal work. Epson Exhibition Fiber is actually pretty good stuff for B&W.
 
I'm renting one ATM. Wasn't loving it for outdoor shooting, but some indoor candid shooting last night with my ZM Sonnar has made me a believer (though not a buyer). It is my belief that the camera comes alive at higher ISOs. Some of the shots I have left untouched, and the beautiful long grays are something else. That being said I recall loving the B&W JPEGS out of my M8, too (but its high ISO results were lackinng, IMO).

If you shoot a lot of street it really comes alive .The ability to shoot at high ISOs now gives you the ability to really use the DoF scales and have a large DoF f/8 and f/11 and also fast shutter speeds to freeze action.
 
I have one as wel as an M9 and I love it. It's an astonishing camera, and the clarity and detail of the images is astounding. I shot a recent series in the Negev desert using both cameras and the MM's images are so much more maleable, yet require virtually no post production (unless you're looking for a specific look).

I'm a big time believer, and the sad fact is that I've virtually stopped using film since the MM came along (I used to develop and print my own)...
 
I have seen the MM vs M9 print from my local Leica store and it impress me. The detail is stunning. I am happy with my M9-P, however sometime down the road I might get Monochrom if possible.
