You don't need much to get a dramatic effect.
This was shot with a piece of pvc pipe about 16" long and held at arm's length above my head. I'm shorter than the guy in white shirt (under bomber's nose), but see what maybe a little over 2 feet of extra height does?

Sure beats renting a crane, and climbing up there with a 4x5", especially on a windy day.
A good way to shoot elevated architectural exteriors or landscapes.

be sure to use a wicked fast shutter speed . . . I'm thinking of the camera motion . . . . I can't even hold a camera steady at arms length
