Montreal in December?

Cal I loved your running commentary. Austerity; is still here, and about to get worse. The most highest dollars in Canada go to Health care costs, and believe me I am retired, but I get hit huge at the end of the tax year for Health tax. The Gov. is broke, and now are coming out with a Carbon Tax on just about everything soon. They use the word carbon; but all the coin will go to departments that are on the handout, and virtually nothing to clean the air. Yep, your right; a tax just to breath. LOl

O,

I found out from one shop keeper in Old City that she went to New York just across the border to have her baby. It seems there are some big problems with medical care in Canada, but they are different than here in the U.S.

I'm afraid of our deficiet. I know hell will have to be paid. When I went to Montreal oil prices were higher, and the Dollar and Loonie were right around parity, but when I visited Toronto in August this year my dollars went very far. Anyways I was mindful of my benefit, but also of the help I was bringing.

I'm aware and sad about you getting squeezed.

Cal

Thanks everyone for the advice. With the clothes I just procured I am ready for a Himalayan adventure. I am also prepared to squat in the Underground for the duration of my trip, depending on weather :D

Right now I am trying to find gloves that would allow relatively easy access to camera controls - I am taking my Ricoh GRD.

Why underground?

Why underground?

Sorry people but why would anyone travel to Montreal (or any other city) and then spend the time underground looking at the same chain stores that you see in every North American City?

Dress warmly and visit Old Montreal, Mt. Royal, Sherbrooke Street, some exotica like the ruins of the '76 Olympic stadium, McGill University campus. By all means shoot in the Metro if you want to be underground. Some of the bridges like Jacques Cartier and also scenic. And don't forget the people, especially the women.! :))

A pair of thin liner gloves and a pair of mittens are a good combination. Do bring pair of dressy gloves if you plan to have dinner in a more upscale restaurant, or plan to go for a concert.

Other than that, just enjoy the city.
