More battery questions

Hi All - just received a branded Fuji NP80 battery that I planned to use on my RD1, but it only seems to hold ten frames or less (!) of charge and then shuts off. I think I have a dud one, but I did notice it is 1300mAh and the branded Epson ones are 1500 mAh. Does anyone know if this makes a difference? I am guessing it may make a slight one, but surely not to this extent? Any sage words of advice would be great.

I have two Fuji branded ones and they both perform as well as the 'official' epson one. I think you have a dud...

I'd return it. I hope you still have the receipt.

An average battery should last you at least 100 shots (with chimping, and longish turn-to-sleep-mode times), and up to 300 shots (without chimping and switching the camera off when not in use).

I bought a couple of Ultralast batteries from Buy.com. $13.99, 1650 mAh and they do the job.

I have 3 ultralasts (1650) and one epson, and I must say the epson lasts the longest....

but, yeah that's sounds like a dud...

Is there any common view on whether use of non-OEM batteries is really likely to cause problems? It seems unlikely, but given the repair situation, it also seems like even a small risk is worth avoiding (?).

The consensus is that non-OEM batteries are fine - just that most seem to have less capacity than the Epson originals - which are hard to find and expensive.

OTOH, no one worried about changing film every 24/36 shots in ye olde days, so changing batteries every 100-200 shots isn't that much of a hardship...

(Just don't use ones that are knackered, as the lack of power may, possibly, cause problems - see my website.)

I'm going to try genuine Fuji ones at some stage - hopefully, being a reputable company, their product specs are higher...

I bought several Fuji batteries which has 1500mah on specs as epson. I don't see differences yet. I hope they last for a while 🙂

Genuine Fuji NP-80 batteries were 1300mAh and are not sold anymore AFAIK.
Others are either:
- OEM's branded Epson, Delkin, Energizer, Hahnel, Kodak, North American Battery Company, Ricoh, Toshiba, Ultralast, Uniross and others i guess;
- or generic batteries often called 'replacement' or 'compatible' with no brand name or reference other than Fuji and/or NP-80.
Mine are Epson's, Hahnel HL-80 (3.7V - 1350mAh) and generic batteries found on eBay (3.7V - 1500 mAh).
I don't see significant differences between them but generic batteries don't provide any other warranty than that of the seller if any of course.

Today I set a Jessops 3.6V 1300Ah for the first time, only one charge, and only 60 shots RAW+JPG, Its not much. I wish that the next charges lasts more.

3.7 V is OK but better choose more than 1300 mAh if you can.
