More from the Speed Graphic

For those of you following my foibles with the Speed Graphic and learning to deal with LF sheet film, here are a couple of the shots I've done recently. The "Runaway Frog" was the one I had the stain problem with in my last thread. It's obviously ok now :). It was at a local Nature Center's Toddler program the other day. The other three are from the last visit to my parent's farm. As a way to get to really know the camera (and especially the hyperfocal distances on the lens), I've been doing some of the family "snapshots" with the Speed. Sometimes it even works... :bang:

Film is Tmax 400 @ EI400, dunked in D-76, scanned and minimally postprocessed in photoshop. All four were probably about 1/100th @ f22 or 32 (depending on the sunlight) with my 127/4.7 Ektar lens.

Any comments/criticism greatly appreciated. I'll make no claims to greatness on any of them, though I'll admit to a passing fondness for the frog and the chicken... ;)

Love the one with the potbelly pig!

Detail is great but the highlights seem a little blown out, maybe from scannning or developing. Try rating the Tmax a little lower at 200 if possible or develop for a little less time, maybe 15% less. Were these handheld?

I like the pig myself.

I wouldn't change the IE or development time of the film without looking at the neg.'s. themselves. That's the beauty of 4x5's. You can change development times for each shot depending on lighting.

Those are so sharp they must run the JPEG compression scheme crazy!

Those look great, what detail.
