More Leica III madness from Istanbul!

For these shots I changed to the CV Snapshot Skopar 25mm f4 - cracking lens!

All on XP2, and hand-held close to wide-open.

The first shot was a grab, the second shows the moment that the big guy noticed I was there - I think he had just lost the game!

The third is an interesting gateway to one of the oldest streets in town.

Some more from old Byzantium - same kit as before.

First is the oldest coffee shop in the Grand Bazaar - only traditional drinks here (+ Pepsi!). No beer - it's forbidden by law, although we did find a place just opposite that would serve a cool foaming frostie in bright orange plastic beakers (from a distance it looks like orage juice)!

Second is a shot from the Blue Mosque where some men are washing in preparation for prayers - there is a detail shot of the seats in my Summar thread.

So many great subjects.

Yes, the people are generally very friendly and often willing to pose for you (which can be a mixed blessing). There were one or two who did not seem keen on having a camera pointed at them, but very few.

There are lots of shots waiting to happen, especially around the old town, Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Aghia Sofia, etc, etc. If you are into boats, a trip down to the waterfront would be worthwhile with a mix of ferries and pleasure boats and the odd tramp steamer.

Definitely worth the trip.

This is most certainly a record price for a post 1945 Leica IIIC (this was a 1946 Half Race) specially ordered for the German American News and Information Service - fun stuff, still hoping to hearing from the seller with exculsive photos before it`s shipped away

Sorry about the vulcanite - I have no idea what the nuts at the Royal Mail have done with it - I'll look for some more. Thanks for your IIIc update - I like the look of that DANA camera, but not the price!

I think there is either some flare, or the cassette leaked a little light - there is a dark band on the neg. It's the only one like that, so i can't think of any other answer. Grab shots are sometimes the best, i have a couple that I took in Katmandhu years ago that are among my favourites.

It could be a shutter problem, John. You might try a few more shots at the speed you used for the gateway picture.

I don't think it's a capping problem - the shutter has been serviced and a lot of the other shots were taken at 1/60 like this one. I suppose I could have caught the speed knob with my finger though.

I'll be looking out for any repeat in future films.
