More new film! Bergger Pancro 400

I have some on order and look forward to trying it.

I gave their new warmtone fiber paper a try late last year ant its become my favorite paper. I feel tits the best silver gelatin paper I've ever used. I'm using the gloss and it's brilliant, rich, tones beautifully and has an amazing tonal scale and feel to the base.

I'm hopeful the film is equally as good. Meanwhile I'm giving Foma retropan 320 a try. I'm also looking forward to seeing Ferania introduce their B&W film. It's my understanding it's a remake of one of their 60's emulsions. It's really encouraging to see these new products coming on the market.

I received a few rolls of Pancro 400 yesterday as part of an order from First Call . It sounds very attractive but of course that could just be hype. I'll probably use Xtol which I'm familiar using with HP5.

Where did you get it? I've had it on backorder for months.

It is definitely coated by InovisCoat in Germany (former engineers from the Agfa factory in Leverkusen, Germany). Indirectly confirmed by the new Bergger CEO.

They are outsourcing it: Their papers are made by Ilford.
The film emulsion is probably made by FilmoTec in Germany.
For years Bergger is the FilmoTec distributor in France, so there is a long established relationship.

All good news here: Small, flexible, innovative film producers are preparing for the film revival.

I have heard it said that the only thing that Bergger actually makes is labels. My guess is that they are outsourcing those too.

Isn't Ilford HP5+ a dual-layer film as well?

It really doesn't matter who makes it. It's all about how good it is. I tried their new paper when it came out and It's the best fiber base paper I've ever used. The gloss surface is unlike any I've ever seen and the tones are the richest of any paper I've used in over fifty years and I've tried most that have been available in the US.

FWIW, here's some interesting comments on developing Bergger Panchro (see:https://figitalrevolution.com/category/bergger/ ). Led me to a few interesting places. Lemme know what you think. I picked up 2 rolls to "try" and then on reading this, was sufficiently impressed to pick up another 5 rolls - 'cause I rather expect it will go out-of-stock quickly (B&H is already out).

I bought 6 rolls and have shot 2 and processed one in HC110 B and one in Rodinal 1:25. I set print and haven't had a chance to print any. I might get a chance tomorrow.

Just looking at the negs they remind me of HP5. The base density is about the same too.
