I have put about five rolls of film through my M3 and have just had a roll developed. I chap in the camera shop said the problem that I encountered (see attached image) is probably due to a broken cog on the wind mechanism. Does anyone have any experience with this, or perhaps think that it may be a one off? It only happened on one frame (frame 22). Thanks.

It is possible that there is a broken or bent tooth on a gear, or maybe just general wear and tear, these cameras are after all,- fifty+ years old, and many have seen heavy pro. use. Do you feel any tightness or 'roughness' in the mechanism?, I would try one or two more cheap films, and if the problem persists - it looks like a service is needed!.
Dave.

Could that not be the take up spool not rotating the same complete arc as the take up shaft. Load an old film in the M3 but leave the baseplate open and see what happens. It is possible that the spool slips on the shaft.
Just one of the possible clues.
