Gallery for pictures taken with the KMZ Moskva camera.
I bought a Moskva 4 and shot a test roll of film Saturday. I am quite happy with the pictures. Both pictures are from a roll of Arista EDU 100, F/16 at 1/100th sec. R09 1:50 for 7 minutess

Here's a couple from my Moskva-4 (the earlier version with the original top plate). I've somewhere got some 6x4.5 negs from it too - someone modified it to take the formats!

Moskva 5 6x9 folder, Arista.Edu. Ultra (Fomapan) 200, exposed at 100, D-76 1:2, 8-min rotary.

A test shot from my "project" Moskva 5:

(shot on Fomapan 100, developed in Rodinal)
There was a lot of rust inside this thing, the focusing helical was almost totally seized, and all the optics were filthy. It's cleaned up lovely and there's no light leaks. However, I can't get the shutter to latch reliably, so getting into the shutter mechanism is my next task. After that I might treat it to some Aki Asahi replacement leather... I think it deserves it.

Impressive image quality, pretty consistently! I've toyed with getting one of these, but have been burned many times with FSU equipment; the one exception is my Iskra, purchased from Fedka fully reconditioned and functioning flawlessly. If I should take the plunge, is there a particular model that is recommended, and why? I do realize that condition is more important than age, and a thoroughly CLA'd camera would be mandatory, of course.

To be honest... I don't think you can really go wrong with a Moskva (assuming it isn't totally battered, of course).Impressive image quality, pretty consistently! Soviet camera equipment all started to drop in quality in the mid-1970s as their economy started to collapse under Brezhnev. The Moskva, on the other hand, didn't make it past 1960 - so quality is still relatively high.
The 1 and 3 don't have rangefinders; the 2, 4 and 5 do. The 4 & 5 can both do 6x6 as well as 6x9 if you have the right frame for it (my Moskva 5 didn't come with the 6x6 frame, sadly).
Whatever you go for, make sure you get one set up for roll film, not plates. Oleg's had a Moskva 3 in stock for ages - but it's one of the plate models, and who wants to deal with glass plates in 2024?

Actually KMZ quality never really declined. A cla and you’re ready to go. The Moskva is a nice camera.
