most compact elmar hood solution

This is a complex question and becomes a matter of personal preference. An M camera, even with an Elmar 3.5 50mm is too big for me and my pockets. My Rollei 35 is a bit too thick. My Retina IIa just doesn't feel right but my IIIc and Elmar does, just barely. I keep thinking I want a faster lens but then it becomes about as large as an M camera. I've found I can do a lot with the f3.5 aperture. To help protect the camera, I made a long thin bag the IIIc slips into, I fold the excess over the front of it and it slips easily into the pocket of my jeans. Yes, it's a little big but acceptable. Anything larger would not work for me. The lens does not flare much and I only carry a hood if it's in a bag with a few other lenses. When I put a 50mm Summar on the camera it becomes bigger than I prefer to pocket altho I have on occasion. Sounds like you really need to try this setup before you buy. A IIIc, Elmar and hood may or may not work for you. Good Luck. Joe

I feel the same.

I do not intend on carrying this camera in my pants pocket ALL of the time, just on few occasions. Well, I think that I will have to try this settup and with collapsible lenses too to see what is acceptable and what isn't.
