Most Famous Nikon RF Photog Contest

the late Earl of Lichfield was a well known Olympus OM user before he went digital, just before his death.

I could be mistaken, but while Googling for this, I read that Capa was found dead with two cameras, one loaded with color film and the other with B&W. One was a Contax, the other a Nikon RF.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

Thing is, at least his Contax survived the explosion that killed him, with film intact. Pity he wasn't built with fine German engineering.

Well Dennis Hopper was giving an exhibit of his photos in this town (L.A.) recently. I heard a live radio interview with him a few weeks ago. He told a story about buying a little, but very expensive (unamed) camera in Japan 30 years ago and taking many photos with it. Could this be a Nikon RF ?

As I recall Queen Elizabeth has been seen with a Leica -- with good taste like that, Nikon RF's might conceivably be in her kit.

Bill Mattock -- Che Guevara

I started this thread because there is so much written on who used Leicas, but not so much on who used NRF. The Lee Harvey Oswald shooting pic may be the most famous pic by a NRF, and Capa is certainly famous, and I was surprised no one mentioned Sammy Davis Jr.

However, my own vote at the moment (until more famous NRF shooters come to my attention) is Che Guevara. Why? Because he is a world wide iconic figure, and from what I understand, he was once a working photographer, not just an occasional snap shooter.

There are a number of pictures of Che after he became a revolutionary, shooting with what appears to be a Black Nikon S2 and a 50/1.1 lens. Apparently he really enjoyed photography. What fascinates me is that the black S2 and 50/1.1 were very expensive and hard to get even in the US, much less in the more challenging economic climate of South America where that camera and lens would have represented years of labor for the average laborer. . Did he somehow save up enough to buy it? a gift? stolen? What happend to that black S2 and 50/1.1? IF anyone knows the story, I would be most interested to find out.

Bill, please email your address for the caps.

Stephen,

As is the case with all good revolutionaries, Che was from an upper middle class family. He was trained as a medical doctor. If you watch the movie "Motorcycle Diaries" you will see that is was from expeirences encountered during this post-graduation "road trip" that he developed an understanding of the plight of the poor in Latin America.

I did mention Sammy Davis Jr. in thread # 6

saw a pic of Sammy during his rat pack days , of him shooting with a black SP.

I wonder if Bill has any Nikon RF stuff....if not...I buy two of them things too(one of each).
BTW isn't somebody out there that can make a rear Cap for internal mount Nikkors? They'll probably make a fortune out of it.
