This is just my general impresssion, but rare seems to be the most overused adjective when used to describe an item on Ebay. I mean, can't a seller just describe it as it is, and leave the rarity to the experts? It also seems rather unscrupulous on the part of the seller, inflating the value of an already commonplace item. Anybody have other overused adjectives seen on Ebay?

mint - , that one drives me crazy!!! Just say big ugly scratch, butt ugly ding or tape all over the back. I don't mind the honesty!

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, my first thought was "rare". My personal favorite use: "Gotta be rare in this condition" (edited to remove caps, 45 exclamation points and several "L00K"s)

I've used mint, mint minus, new, and immaculate in many of my auctions for equipment and not one person has ever complained at my descriptions after receiving the items. Perhaps though I'm honest and point out every flaw I see (and I look hard) rather than "neglecting" to mention things that are "assumed too trivial".

It's usually what is not described which is the problem and I always tend to ask people detailed info on how the item deviates from new before deciding to bid.

How about "I have never seen one like this before" or "in all my years......" or the best "I am passing the savings on to you with this.....". I wish it was like this " I picked up 20 camera on my last trip for 5 dollars and I'm going to charge 250% mark up and double in shipping and handling".

When I was looking for a Leica on ebay, the word, "PRISTINE" popped up all the time. I recall one auction this word being used about 20 times. So I thought it was a good word to over-use in my posts. 😎

eBay is like Lake Woebegone: All the sellers are beautiful, and all the prices are above average. 😀

. . . and eBay includes the most amazing, amusing and astonishing collection of liars, cheats, pimps, ersatz preachers, scammers, spammers, flim-flammers, and puffed-up croaking toads ever to be seen since humanity crawled out of the primordial slime, and up the slippery slopes of the mountain of civilization to its ultimate destiny--a shining beacon of unfettered laissez-faire, horrendously hyperbolic hype, and unmitigated caveat emptor. . .

. . .But you can sometimes find nice people and nice toys there.

I am a little confused about "minty." Why would I care what the camera tastes like?

I always wondered about that one.

My favourite is 'good luck bidding' ... huh??

It's an auction which is in direct conflict with the normal buy sell dynamic.. my bad luck bidding is the sellers good luck, their bad luck on my bidding is my good luck.. isn't it?
