Most Used "Street" Lens

Just out of an idle curiosity, what focal length lens do you use most when "street shooting"? For me it's a 35mm, although I just got a 28 & am intrigued.

The CV Nokton 40mm f1.4 is usually my go to lens for street stuff.

50mm is probably my favourite length, but the Konica AF has a 35mm so that's the most used. I've tried to like 28mm, but it hasn't worked out thus far.

I enjoy using the 50 summicron in the streets the most, I kind of find it a comfortable focal length for composition.

Although I also use the x100 and cv15 on a fed5 a lot since often in Indian cities there isnt enough space to use a 50.

Used to be 35mm (Summilux), now 50mm more (C-Sonnar). But I might go back.

Normally if I was to wander out to do some street then I would say a 35mm would be the go-to, but it also depends a lot on the circumstances. If it's a shoulder to shoulder situation (Head to toe shots with 35mm requires say 10 -12 feet..distance) then swapping over to a 21mm wouldn't be unusual.

Depends on the camera. On my M8 it's the 50mm Summicron. With the GF1 it was the 20mm lens, but now it's the 14mm f/2.5 With my Canon 50D, it's the 17-40L, and with my Canon 5D it's the 50mm Summicron-R.

On my M6TTL, I usually have a 50mm f2.0 Summicron (outdoors) or my 28mm f2.8 Elmarit if indoores (shopping centre, train station, etc. Occasionally, I've used my Nikon F3HP with a 35mm f2.0 and, rarer still, my Mamiya 7 with a 65mm lens.

The one thing I'm standardising is use of Ilford XP2 Super as I have learned to love this film. I also love Kodak Tri-X but C41 processing and ability to shoot from 200 to 1600 ISO on the same roll is a great advantage.

35mm is great, but lately I've been using either 28mm or 50mm. I find that the 35mm is too "average" in the sense that it doesn't specialize in anything. 50mm lets you really isolate the scene you want, and 28 makes you work to compose well, due to there being so much in the scene. Both have more character than the 35mm in my opinion. I feel like in most cases when I'm shooting 35 it's either a little wider than I want or a little too narrow.

That's just me though.

Depends a bit on the camera I'm using, but whatever nets a 35 to 60 mm equivalent FoV does best by me.

I am still exploring. I've done some great stuff with my Rollei 35's 40mm Tessar and Canonet's 40/1.7. I am waiting for my 35mm/2.5 Color Skopar to put on my Bessa R2, I'll then be able to go back and forth between that and the Jupiter 8 (50mm) I have on it now. Definitely still exploring street shooting.

hi, if i remember right xp2 is b&w film,its developed in c41 (color film chemicals ) at your local color lab, and you can vary the film speed iso, asa,on the same spool hope this helps

40mm summicron C on M2 and 25mm CV f4P on my R-D1.
It seems I feel comfortable with 40mm angle of view.

For me, the 1st choice is the Canon 25 LTM, set at around F5.6 and 2 meters (hyperfocal) to "shoot and scoot". 2nd choice is the CV15.

As always 45mm Hexanon on my Konica Auto S2 and 101mm Optar on my Baby Speed Graphic w/6x9 back.

Both complement the human vision and aspect ratio... perfectly.

On a Leica M film body, I like 35mm for street. It allows you to capture an entire human figure at a distance of about 3 meters (10 ft). I sometimes use a 50 for street, though. I'm a little uncomfortable w/ 28 for street b/c I have to move in even closer to the subject than I like.

I also like 40 or 40 equivalent, like a Rollei 35 or a 20 on an m4/3 camera. Works like a 35 but w/ a little tighter framing.
