In the early morning hours of Mother's Day, the Northern Lights put on a fantastic display! The aurora started with typical greenish hues, but as the geomagnetic storm peaked around 2:00-3:00 MST, the sky became a rainbow of colors.
Enjoy!

That's pretty wild! I've never seen it so colorful..... But I've only seen it twice in my life, once in rural North Dakota and once here in the Chicago suburbs. Both times it was rather pale. But ever since I'm always on the lookout for it on clear nights!

Thank you. I'm located in south central Montana. Initially, the aurora was indistinct -- just appearing as a slight brightness on the northern horizon. As the activity peaked in the early morning hours, it took on a more structured appearance with a slight greenish cast to the naked eye. With a relatively short exposure of 15-20 seconds (ISO 1600-3200), the full range of colors was easily captured. By about 3:00 a.m. local time, the activity started to decline, which was good, as I didn't want to pull myself away from this beautiful spectacle. At 4:00 a.m., my pillow offered a very welcoming embrace!

These are great! I wanted to have a look tonight, but the clouds and rain finally came.
