I was shooting MotoGP this weekend and of course my Leica came with me. I just wanted to share some of my shots.

Awesome pics! Those races are always a good time. Looks like you had some good access too. What lenses did you shoot with?
I'm sitting down to watch the race right now.

I added a few more photos. I have press access so I can get to the grid and pretty much anywhere on track.
For the paddock/grid shots I used a 50mm Summicron v.3 and for the action I used a 90 Elmar v.1
Looking back at my shots I may rethink my coverage next year and instead of shooting the races focus upon documenting the other aspects.

How could you shoot sports (super fast motorcycle) with a manual RF camera....

Thanks! The goose was on display. It was a real beauty. I wouldn't put it up against one of those race bikes though!

Zone focus and good panning technique. You have to know right when to hit the shutter-release.
I can usually tell exactly when my camera is tracking at the same speed as the vehicle. That's when I hit the button. No spray and pray. I will say that my keeper rate is much higher with a DSLR.
I also used a Nikon Df and it performed very well.

I don't really photograph them as they are generally very corny and trained to do that "pose and fake smile" whenever a camera is pointed at them. Sure they're nice to look at, but in my opinion they don't make for compelling images.

That is a really nice set, congratulations. The panning is solid, and I always like the paddock/pit-lane/behind the scenes pics. That one of the Repsol Honda mechanic is priceless!
It is still too cold for motorsports here, even in the comparatively mild part of Canada where I live. May 5th will be the first day trackside for me... waiting... waiting...

Richard, what are you shooting in May. I race and do some trackday events on my TZ250. Do you shoot motorcycle racing?

nice work ! It's nice to see more photos of those scenes outside of the track.

Leica M. Is there nothing it can't do? (With apologies to Homer Simpson) Sport is so timing-critical that extreme familiarity with whatever camera you prefer is more important than what that camera is. I have shot basketball, rowing and soccer with Leicas and apart from the reach there is no real downside.

Great stuff. A couple of years back (about 13/14 actually) I had full access at Silverstone to F1 testing (not on GP weekend). Yes, I shot the cars on track from 'privileged' positions ie not behind the fence. But my fave shots were life in the paddock/pits.
I have the slides somewhere in a box.
That's why I love these shots. The life as opposed to all the usual action stuff. I find these give a greater insight as to what it is all about.
Steve.
