Equador? I'd go with caffeinol. You can pick it off the bushes right there.

Photographers' Formulary has a web site and sells through it. I think it's Formulary.com.
They have all kinds of powdered developers and fixes and very good instructions, too.

Thanks. I mailed them about it. I checked Adorama too, but they don't send developer since it seems to be against the law to ship that kind of chemical overseas.

Hi Kevin. Luiz, from Brazil.
Be ready and prepared. Brazil (and South America) sucks in matter of chemicals. Here we couldn´t even buy another developer except D76. I mix it by myself using raw chemicals. The only thing I buy is Ilford Rapid Fixer. Everything else (film, cameras, lenses) I buy from eBay.
Good luck there. I think in Ecuador you´ll be in trouble searching for chemicals. Buy everything you can and learn that eBay is your friend.

Hey
Ive been in Quito for 2 months now. I have been using a lab called Color Power here for 120 and 135 c41 e6 and bnw. These guys have provided pretty consistent results and they scan at $5/roll too. I can definetely recommend them for any work that you cant do yourself.
Cheers

Hey man, I think these guys are only in Quito, but if you can't find a decent lab in Cuenca it might be worth sending some rolls up here...
Sure we can catch up, I'll be in Quito until April. Just sent you my details.

I've visited Ecuador (mainly Quito) a number of times (6 I think). My wife has family there. I do not think that you will be able find chemicals there. It was hard enough to find film. I have never been able to find b&w film there.
My suggestion is to bring a few bottles of Rodinal there and develop everything at 1+50 or 1+100. You can also bring Diafine and reuse it over and over. As for film, bring a few carry on bags full of film

Can you ship the powder chemicals via Fed X or UPS?
I would opt for powder if you can get bottled water to mix up your stock solutions.
Powder in powered form lasts a long time!

I was at Color Power today, got back 2 rolls of 35mm HP5@800 and was really good! No complaints. Jaime is the owner and Marco handles the the black and white film. They extremely limited amount of film, Neopan 400 and Neopan 100 SS and dated Ilford Pan F 50 all in 135 format.
They have a small small amount of 120 format You are better off to order your film and have it sent here when you need it. As for Correos del Ecuador, they have a new service here that if your package is under 4 kilos and no more than the value of $400 USD, you only pay $5 USD for importing your package. Great service, have not had a problem at all, for all my Ebay purchases, mind you no chemicals. Also Ilford has distribution in BOG and LIM. I have not order from them.

Nikonian!
Great info to read. So if I do need some film, I can go to Quito and order some via Color Power. I'm bringing enough powder to Ecuador to develop for the whole country I think. about 3 kgs of developer and 2 kgs of fixer. As for the film: I'm bringing about 60 rolls of tri x in carry on, and I checked about 40 rolls of the cheap fomapan. If they do get ruined in the check in luggage, it won't be such a catastrophe!

OK guys, little update. I've arrived here a few weeks ago and I'm finally with internet. I made it through customs without problem, although I do suspect I got lucky because there wasn't an customs officer looking at the machine when my bags passed through. I've already developed some film here and it's working great, no problem with the film that went into the checkin luggage. Now I only have to find a scanner. The only negative scanners they sell here al some old HP 3310's. I'm looking on amazon for a nice Epson V600 now!

Hi Kevin, are you still in Ecuador? I'm going to be there in the future (exactly when I'm not sure) and I'm wondering how you're making out with your film and chemicals.
