MP Navigator Issues in OS 10.8

I come to RFF with my hat in my hand hoping for help where Apple has failed. I recently had to upgrade to a new Macbook Pro as my old one was dying. I started scanning and MP Navigator (for a Canoscan) keep crashing. Long story short OS 10.8 doesn't play well with third party software. I tried SilverFast which is about as straightforward as coordinating a herd of wild angry cats. If anyone knows of a work-around or fix please let me know. As an incentive, anyone that genuinely solves this problem can have a print of their choice from my shots, on b/w fiber-based paper.

The basic issue is that MP Navigator crashes, no matter what. I've tried uploading myriad patches, re-installing MP Navigator, etc. To no avail.
 
If the old one is still running at all I'd suggest stripping it down to a bare minimum of software, run the Disk Utility religiously, empty all the caches, delete as much as you can, upgrade the memory and use it for scanning alone.

I have an older MBP now in my darkroom which was getting very sluggish, but after doing the above it is working passably well for some tasks. The Sigma Raw Convertor runs on it when it wouldn't run on this newer machine.

I'm sorry to hear your woes. FWIW I couldn't get Silverfast to work reliably on 10.7 or 10.8 despite Lasersoft's patches. I don't know about Navigator but Lion made CS3 unusable for me as well. What did I do eventually? I switched back to Windows with a Dell Precision Mobile workstation. I hope you find a solution. The Mac rumors forum was always helpful to me in times past. Maybe you could ask someone on there?
