I have a MP3 LHSA kit with a 50mm 1.4 and would like to get a wide angle lens. The MP3 has the 35mm,50mm and 90mm lines in the finder. I was wondering if I got a 28mm would the 35mm lines show in the finder and if so would I have to get an external finder for it, or would using the whole finder outside the 35mm lines match what the 28mm would see?

Thanks😕

Hi Joe, others may correct me on this, but I believe the 28mm will bring up the 90mm framelines, but the entire viewfinder is a good approximation of the field of view.

By the way, have you found a lens cap that fits inside the hood? I dislike how there are only caps for the naked lens and the reversed hood.

No I haven't found anything that goes over the hood without reversing it. I did get the old time XOOIM lens hood for the 50mm as I liked its looks better, sort of a throw back.

Ah right, I remember reading your post about getting it. My problem is I've been leaving the hood at home because I don't want to keep reversing it. Actually I don't even mind since the lens is big enough as it is, but I feel exposed without a hood.

35 is a slightly wide lense that utilizes your wonderful frames and both Leica optics are excellent. The whole finder does approximate the 28mm, but without paralax compensation. Congratulations on the new camera.

I would say a 28 is pretty well smack on the entire finder as you look thru wiythout searching the corners too hard. The 25 is going to be appreciably more than you can confortably see whilst looking naturally thru the finder. I have an MP and an MP3 on the way. Having used my 0.72 MP I am 100% sure I will be able to use 28s on the MP3 using the finder perimeters as my guide. You may wish to consider a 35 as a second lens as I find the 35 gets much more use than my 28 for street shooting at least. It also gives the most natural view on a 0.72 finder and so is a a real pleasure to use. Use your frameline selector to see what I mean.

I agree with Turtle, the 28mm field of view is close to the whole finder of 0.72X Leica cameras. Many photographers use older M2 or M4 bodies without extra finders for 28mm. Bodies with 0.58x mag give you real room outside the 28mm view, which I like a lot. A 0.58x Finder M's whole finder view approximates that of 24/25mm lenses. Some big 28mm lenses and their hoods protrude a lot into any Leica finder, so sometimes a 28mm accessory finder gives you a better view, though a slower shooting rate.
