Didn't get to take many pictures last weekend, but we did visit my wife's uncle in Suffolk and took him up to Woodbridge for a day. I lived in Woodbridge for 6 months 30 years ago and Sue used to drive up from London, where she was working, to see me at weekends. We always enjoy going back, even though it's not a regular trip these days as we're back home in 'the north'!

This is Sue and her Uncle William sat outside the Ferry Quay cafe, shot with the Mr Ding Pactron 1.8/35 on my M11. The white balance is auto and a bit off and auto levels in lightroom. I'm too tired to do more tonight, but it's a starter for people to have a look. Probably at f2.8 or 5.6... the M11 guessed 3.4. The crop on my laptop is around 200%, so very big.


Editing to add that it feels fine mechanically. Smooth focus. Shutter clicks were a bit soft already feel good. No slop and accurate focus. Little bit of focus shift around f4 and, inevitable field curvature at large apertures due to mechanical vignetting.

I actually quite like how it draws. Need a lot more pics but it’s quite pretty!!

Mr. Ding's 50mm f1.2 Noxlux for Nikon Z

I received the “Mr. Ding” 50mm lens today. My first impression is mixed. The lens is HEAVY… more than a typical Nikkor Ai 50mm lens (470g vs 220g). The aperture ring is a bit ‘loose’ in that the detents at each f-stop are not as distinct as those on my old Nikkor lenses. And most importantly, for me, is that even though the lens has the cpu contacts, they only communicate the little green focus square in the viewfinder. The cpu doesn’t communicate the lens aperture setting to the camera! So the lens, on the Zf, operates just as if it had no cpu, except you get the focus confirmation. Disappointing. And at first glance, the image quality is pretty much the same as any on my old Nikkor Ai lenses. The lens length is nice, in that you don’t need the extra length of an adapter, like those necessary to use old Nikkor lenses on the Zf.

Feels like what the "AF confirmation adapters" (mount with a chip to activate the AF/green dot, zero linkage to the aperture) do back in the days.
