Hi
I have been looking for MTF curves for CV lenses to compare them to Leica and Zeiss offerings, but this seems exceedingly difficult to find.
Does anyone know where this can be found?

As my memory goes, CV doesn't publish the lens MTFs, but I think the head bartender may be the authoritative figure for this question.

Lenses are about much more than sharpness. Leica is Leica not just because of sharpness, but good bokeh/aberration control/color/distortion control...

Head bartender? Never heard of... is it a site, a user on this forum?
What I like about mtf's is that they are not subjective, while people on the internet has all sort of opinions...

Mr. Stephen Gandy, who owns this site. He is the CV distributor in the US.

MTFs can be just as subjective since they are based on theoretical calculations and not production samples. Most productions samples have tolerance and cannot perform up to the MTF indicated levels.

Many published MTFs use different measurement points depending on the manufacturer so it is only possible to compare lenses within the same "family" not across families.
Whilst I agree the MTF is useful for technical information how a lens will perform in the field, at infinity, close up, focus shift on aperture changes etc can be more significant. How the lens handles in the hand, the focus throw and even the filter thread (have a already a drawerful of that size?) can be important.
All of which doesn't mean you shouldn't look for them.

Mr Stephen Gandy is the site owner, often referred to as "the head bartender". He imports CV lenses to the U.S.A.

The best place I have found for information on the performance on modern rangefinder lenses is Sean Reid's website Reidreviews.com. He tests them both in his lab and in the field. The articles are very well written and just make a lot of sense. The information he provides will tell you a LOT more than any MTF charts.

This is a subscription website but in my opinion the info is well worth the $32 fee.

Most MTF calculations these days are simulated Computer models and are not made with real lenses there are some exceptions but most Japanese Mfg. only use the calculated MTF. MTF is far from 100% objective but it was at least a try to put lens resolution on a scientific base.

There is a webiste called dslrmagazine.com , they review a lot of nice gear (dslr-through) and seem to appreciate what VC is doing.

Here they review the new 1.5 Nokton, not MTF but in others reviews and articles they do it.
