The current exhibition showcases Dave Anderson's "Rough Beauty" exhibition of a couple of years photographing Vidor, TX.

I didn't find most of the Anderson photos compelling, perhaps because I've seen too many of these kinds of photo studies of poor back country folk. Anderson seems to exploit them, whereas earlier work (Lange, etc.) was sympathetic. This sort of stuff that Anderson's doing seems to smack of a freak show. Not all of it, but a lot of it.
The exhibit is organized around the "road" theme and features a selection of Robert Frank prints and a video of (I think... didn't watch it) Jack Kerouac, and the work of Dorothea Lange. It's an interesting show, but not entirely because of Dave Anderson.
