I've just heard some disturbing news for us UK folks and peeps who pick up second hand equipment, hard to find bits and all the rest of it...
MXV of Uckfield appears to be no more

This was my favourite local place for second hand stuff, having bought a few lenses from there in the past, most importantly my Leica M2 and MR Meter (the very camera that really changed the way I take pictures and improved my photographic journey no end) and recently in August for a 28mm OM lens, focussing screen and lens hood.

On the alert
Must admit it' not a total surprise, they've not seemed to be getting much new stock for a while.

I visited Real Camrea Co in Manchester yesterday for the first time and we had a conversation about how there aren't many left and how 'back in the day' I built two Canon FD systems by keeping my eyes on the various second hand gear shops in my area. These days ebay and the digital world have combined to make it that much harder for second hand shops. All progress isn't progress - you can't hang and chat on ebay...

You can not be serious! They were fab! I got quite a few things from them including the Zuiko 55 f1.2 I bought specially for photographing my second daughters birth. I am gutted!

I sent them an e-mail last week as the front page itself gave no hint of closure - but the second hand listings returned a database error.
I think they sold a lot as FSOB, so I hope those people who lodged goods for commission sale get them back.

Hello,
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately it has been necessary to stop
trading so as an initial precaution we removed stock from the web site.
Best regards and apologies

FYI: there has been a fault with your s/h listing for the last few
days: e.g. http://www.mxv.co.uk/hasselblad.asp returns :
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could not find file
'(unknown)' /hasselblad.asp, line 12

Bobfrance and I will be in the Real Camera Co this Saturday no doubt, Mike. How Jem keeps track of all the stuff he has beats me. BTW did you buy anything while you were there?

In the mid 1970s my trusty BSA B44 took me to most places in Sussex, but I seem to have missed Uckfield or to have gone through it without stopping. One shop I recall is Gifford Boyd. Is that around still?
