Good attempt - of course I liked some photos better than others.
I'm never sure about b&w photos on a black background but the real test is with the printed book and how that comes out. Please let us know.
I might be wrong but I think there was only one sepia print and I think I would have either liked more, or not had it at all. The couple of times you have photos on both sides I liked because it suddenly added interest to the book - I wasn't expecting that layout.
You must be pretty pleased with what you have produced - hope there is another book to come.

There are some nice photos, but, IMO, the best one is on the cover. I anticipated more photos where the eyes were clearly the focal point of the shot.

Some of the shots get there (like pages 43, 47, 55), but the cropping for a lot leaves you with some blocked shadows and artifacts. Also, I think editing more aggressively could leave you with fewer, more powerful, shots.

I think it is a great title and good theme for a book - and would make a great project. Regarding the layout, it may be more interesting with some concise narrative of the shots - you have some older photos thrown in there that seem to me out of place; context could help. Or perhaps a standard left-right (verso-recto?) layout and a couple of double page shots(with the right shot) would be more attractive.

I like the theme a lot and there are some really eye-catching photos in there (har, har).

Seriously, I think you need to keep adding to your "eyes" photo collection and revise this book periodically. And I agree with gdi to divide the book into sections based on context (no need for formal chapters, just order of display, that way it won't disturb the flow).

If you want another pair of eyes to bounce ideas, I'm there for the price of a cup of coffee and a good discussion 🙂

Have been working on my first Blurb book too - http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2014790 - and wondered what you thought of their black/white printing. I am only printing a few copies of mine which is more of a legacy type project. But I have a current project I'd like to print for less money and was exploring using Lulu. Ever try them?

The "Eye" book was fun and I really should update it.

I have another, http://www.blurb.com/my/book/detail/1825137 which I like even more as it contains some poems too.
I have had three done by Blurb but have not tried other printers. My daughter was the Yearbook Editor for a school system where she worked and thought the Blurb software was excellent.. The finished products were very nice and drew very favorable comments from family and friends, biased maybe, but I think they appreciated the quality.

victoriaplo: I liked the street shots in your book. The title led me to think you had more sunlit/dark contrast but from what was available I liked it. I am happy with Blurb's bw and color printing. The color in my newest really popped.

Singing the Praises of Blurb

Got my first Blurb book today and I am absolutely blown away by the quality. I made some dumb mistakes on the layout, but that was why I only ordered one. I'll make changes and then finalize the book.

My book was b&w only and frankly, I cannot believe the quality of the printing. I did order the 12x12 size, I don't know if that makes the printing easier or harder for them. I live in Texas but the book was shipped from San Francisco and I cannot image it turning out better.

I don't think a mix & match color and bw would make and diference to Blurb. It's all computer after you submit your book using their software.
