Hey everyone,

Just wanted to shout out with enthusiasm that a book I was contracted to photograph has gone to press. Sorry about the bubbly excitement.

The book production process was an eye-opener for me. Although I didn't use any rangefinders during my shooting (I used some of my fee/proceeds to purchase my M6 and Zeiss lens and join the RF fraternity), it was an enjoyable and interesting process.

If anybody is interested, I'd be happy to share my limited insight about this particular series of shoots, both technically and subjectively. The links below show the book online at both Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com.

Brilliant! Congratulations! Frances and I have written (and had published) a few cookbooks, and quite honestly, I believe that a good cookbook is up there with a good tavern (cf Dr. Johnson) when it comes to contributions to the sum of human happiness. I'll even hold my nose about the Bush connection (sorry, I'm a Democrat, or more accurately, a Liberal) when I buy a copy -- as I shall attempt to do, even though I loathe buying things on line.

Cheers,

R.

Well, I've tried to order it -- bloody shipping was nearly half the price of the book! -- and am now waiting from a B&N confirmation letter. We live in hope!

Cheers,

R.

Lightshot, thanks...yeah, it's pretty cool...I'm still pinching myself.

Roger, thank you so much! It's a well-made and edited book (I got an advance copy from the publisher) so I hope you'll like it. Ironically I'm not much of a foodie, much to my wife's chagrin (she LOVES tasting, and wines, cheese etc.), so I had no problem shooting and moving on to the next subject. Everyone else was eating!

I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of printing. Some of the images were pushed to ISO 800 back when that wasn't too good, but it looks great in print...another shot across the bow of pixel-peepers!

The majority of the book was photographed with a Nikon D2X, all the food was D2X, and one or two chapters were via D300. 12 megapixel was plenty for double-truck spreads, which is why I won't replace my D700 for a high-pixel model anytime soon.

I used Apple Aperture to edit RAW files on two Macs (a Powerbook G4 and a Macbook Pro, both 15"). I averaged about 700-1000 images per chapter, so I had to edit nearly 10,000 images. That sucked, frankly.

Thanks again for buying one Roger.

Congrats. I may purchase that myself. Not that we are liable to eat any of that at home. My wife is Korean and that is the food we normally eat. If there are enough vegie meals, my oldest daughter would be interested. Even if not, she can try some of them on her boyfriend. Since I grew up on the edge of the old west, that kind of cooking would appeal to me.

During the press build-up, my client (cowboy chef Grady Spears) was on Good Morning America, where they flashed the cover (my photo...the whole book is my photography) on national TV. No photographer credit then, but nice to see anyway:

And just this morning, a nice write-up in our newspaper, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram. The print edition had one of my pictures on the front page, as well as pictures and coverage in their "arts" section:

Overall, I'm pretty pleased.
