my canonet makes thin stripes on the reels

Hello, i bought a QL17 g3, 2 weeks ago. I've already shot 2 films of Tmax400, and after the development, i saw this on both rolls :

thin stripes in the middle of the film! it's apparent on nearly all the roll. I'm quite sure this is not due to the development process or the film.
I've already tried to clean up to death the surfaces where the film goes through. Same problem...
anyone had/have that issue with the canonet? is it a problem of tension of the film caused by the Quick load system or else?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your camera, but do the scratches appear in the same places on BOTH rolls of film? If so, one possiblilty could be the camera's pressure plate. This happened to me once and I found the plate to have specks of ?? adhered to it. Every roll of film would get the same long parallel scratches as it fed thru the camera. I gently removed the specks/grit with a tissue and the scratches disappeared.

If not the plate, then it could also be from the equipment that processes the film. Film I processed at this one local drug store would often have similar scratches.:bang:

I also got long scratches on film I hand-processed. It would occur when I ran them thru a rubber squeegee to get off the excess water and before hanging them to dry. I no longer use squeegees because of that.

How are you sure that it wasn't done during the film processing? Good luck on solving your mystery.

Hi Looking at the scratches on your film I would say there is a strong possibility they are from processing, especially if they are identical in placement. Have a look to see if they are on the emulsion side or on the back side of the film. if it is the back side there is a possibility its dirt in your camera, if its on the emulsion side its most probably from processing. if its on the back side of film use a little oil, using your own skin oil from your face etc rubbed in carefully with a finger will diffuse it, often so it doesnt show in prints at all.

my advice is try another lab, and if the scratches are still there give the camera a good clean out.

to be sure the scratches are not caused by the processing, I've sacrified a roll of Tmax100 36 exp. I've shot the 36 exposures with the cap on the lens, and rewinded the film. No processing. I examined the surface of the film, and saw the scratches in the middle on the roll. I can describe 2 types of scratches :
- a thin line, straight, exactly in the middle of the film, about 10 cm length ramdomly on all the roll
- "waves of scratches" : very thin lines, 3 or 4 mm width, that form like waves randomly on all the film.
Now i'm pretty sure it's dur to the canonet, because i've never had any trouble with that bundle of Tmax. But which part of the canonet is responsible of the scratches?

well, good news for me : the scratches have mysteriously disappeared. My last roll of Tmax100 is perfectly clean. Maybe grandpa canonet just needed to ba used a bit 😕
now i can enjoy my RF!!!:angel:
