Says my ZI to my D200...
DSLR, I served with Epson R-d1s: I knew Epson R-d1s; Epson R-d1s was a friend of mine. DSLR, you're no Epson R-D1s.

Of course, I am having a little fun. But my point is that for over a $1000 difference....... and I am having fun with a bunch of old and new Nikon lenses. Lo and behold, I find myself saying this with no shame.

Frankly...I'm disappointed, because I thought this was gonna be kshapero's idea of an affordable digital rangefinder..as in what Nikon or CV should do to beat the RD-1 and M8.
Thanks for nothing kshapero.
On the positive side though, this thread hasn't gone to 3 pages in one afternoon.

Ah contrare....isn't that my hidden agenda that Nikon should get off its ass and give us the digital RF we deserve and want. I'd buy a digital FM or SP in a heartbeat.Frankly...I'm disappointed, because I thought this was gonna be kshapero's idea of an affordable digital rangefinder..as in what Nikon or CV should do to beat the RD-1 and M8.

Akiva, back to the D line? I'm surprised.
I should have listened to your reason for selling me that D300--I sold it again for the same.
Getting rid of the Nikon lenses now...I can't make myself use an SLR with the M6 around. I'm wanting to wait on affordable full-frame Nikon or an RF before I try digital again.

Personally I would have bought the Fuji S5 Pro instead of a D200.

I did, along with a zoom lens.
I would buy a digital Nikon rangefinder with M-mount too.

Probably equally painless, I'm setting the DSLR's aside, for a while, and buying old Russian film cameras and getting the results scanned at Costco. Gives me the RD1 digital experience but with a true rangefinder and a trip back in time with film, though today's film is so so good.
I can't rationalize your step from SLR to rangefinder, though. That is just too big a step. But you are having fun so you are leading the pack, in my mind.

I don't think there is a 35mm f/1.2 or a 50mm f/0.95 in nikon F mount. Correct me if I'm wrong people

There's no doubt that these are great deals at their blow out prices of $599. The thing I don't like about them is they can't use older non-AI glass, like the d40/60/90 models can.
But they can use non AFS AF lenses, and meter with AI/AIS lenses, and have a better VF than the lower Dxx models. But sizewise, probably 2x an RD1 with typical lens mounted.
