My Day in the Darkroom

Well a nice rainy day here, so into the darkroom I went, but not to print, to plumb...

Right outside the darkroom wall is our outside shower, and this winter the pipes froze. I didn't discover this until I went to take a shower last week, after spending the afternoon bush-hogging the field. Very little water pressure? Then shouts from inside the house- water was spraying out all over the darkroom floor.

So yesterday afternoon I got my parts, and headed in to get started after breakfast. Went pretty well, nothing like a few hours squeezed in under a sink with a propane torch. Printing tomorrow perhaps?

I hate plumbing...

Yes I do have a bit of dislike for plumbing. Not the actal doing of it as much as the fact that it just takes so damn long.

Youre a brave man doing the plumbing yourself, glad it worked out ok.
When we bought the house the pipes had froze over the winter, luckily the seller paid for the repairs before we bought.

Yes 🙂 Thats what made me think of what would have happened if had been Mr.Blair doing the bush-hogging.

Note 1 : I am english (and Tony Blair is the primeminister, for a few more days)
Note 2 : Any dodgy word association should reflect only on Mr.Blair (and me I suppose, oops)

Geez, can't a guy get a little supper after a day of plumbing??

Bush-hogging is the mowing down of anything plant based up to 2" in diameter with a giant lawnmower of sorts, pulled behind the tractor and p.t.o. driven at 1500rpm. Nasty machine. Not to be confused with the roping and tying up of our president (as much as I'd like to).😀

MartinP- the insulation is still quite intact despite all the mice. I think that the pipes froze because I had put splitters on the ends of the faucets last summer. We had a temporary kitchen set-up in the woodshed, and ran our sink off the shower while we gutted the kitchen and only bathroom. Didn't take off the big bronze splitters, perhaps the extra chunk of metal attracted more cold? A guess. The pipes have worked for nine years fine, and this past winter wasn't even all that cold for here (-17°F).

Well have at it- I'm gonna have some dessert.

Pipes and thin external walls can be annoying when it gets cold. I recall fixing my parents washing machine pipes twice in their single-brick kitchen extension - after that I put drain-valves in so they could empty the pipes as well as just turn off the water.

Ahhhh, now it all makes sense !

Pipes and thin external walls can be annoying when it gets cold. I recall fixing my parents washing machine pipes twice in their single-brick kitchen extension - after that I put drain-valves in so they could empty the pipes as well as just turn off the water.

Yes these new faucets have this very nice self-draining feature. Unfortunately they have smaller faceplates than the old ones and a new board was needed to mount them to. It's always something with plumbing.

Out on the west coast we call it brush-hogging. Plumbing is the same, not much fun.
