My Digilux 2 is a great camera, but my M2 is fun to use.

I have a Leica Digilux 2 just back from Leica It came back with a new main board, sensor & 1yr warranty. It takes great photos, but get more satisfaction using my nice M2 & Summicron, winding the film advance & hearing the shutter. I have a lot of money in the Digilux & repair as the main board needed replacement. Do I just sell the Digilux & just keep my film cameras, & does anyone else feel this cold feeling using a digital camera?

Consider an Epson R-D1

Consider an Epson R-D1

Howdy,
if you miss that mechanical feeling yet still want to get digital output without going thru developing, scanning, etc... a R-D1 might just fit the bill. And you get to use your existing M lenses. Or an M8 (but I think the Epson has more of that "old camera" feeling).
Cheers.

I recently sold my Digilux II after using it for a couple of years. I agree, it takes great pictures. Oh, and you can set it up in the menu for a really swell shutter sound. I sold it after finally getting comfortable with my D200. I have a D-Lux 4. I found that its image quality is just as good as that of the Digilux. Not really needing the Digilux II anymore, I used the money to buy a couple extra lenses for the D200.

The Digilux II gave me more of a film camera feel than any other digital I've used (I don't have an Epson). The digital viewfinder is a weakness, though. The Epson has a little more resolution, and higher ISO; but lacks the focal length flexibility of the Digilux 2. I think there is no perfect digital camera yet. Well, OK, maybe the M9.

I ordered a Digilux II from keh recently as a relatively inexpensive digital option to the Ms. It arrived with a non-functioning viewfinder. They are shipping it out to Leica for repair and sending it back to me when complete. I only had a chance to take a few shots with it, but it *feels* nice. It remains to be seen if I can live with the ISO limitations, or frankly, its size. Lots of folks seem to love them, though.

I really enjoyed my Digilux 2. However, it made me a little lazy. It's a great camera for what it is.

I just bought an M2 to make myself work a little harder. I completely agree with k.knox.

If anyone wants a perfectly functioning Digilux 2 with new sensor that Leica replaced (at no charge after the warranty expired; they knew they had a problem and they fixed it; treated me well, but kept the camera for about eight weeks last year)... please send me a PM. Excellent condition. I don't need the M2, an M8 and the Digilux, so....

I'd like a digilux2 but sadly being broke makes it an easy decision for me. I love my m3 and if my 20d was worth something I'd sell it since it just gathers dust. My digital workflow consists mainly of scanning my negatives. Digital is nice for just shooting quick but it does leave me longing for that advance lever and lovely thwip of the m shutter.
@ Rob, If I wasn't broke I'd take that digilux 2 of yours. College has it's way of draining ones finances.
