Rangefinders noob ;)
Hello
I'm new to this forum and to ragefinder photography. I bought '89 FED 5B and today it arrived. I'm amazed a bit cause it look like it have just left the manufacturer
. I also got Industar-61L/D and Jupiter 9 lenses. Of course M39 both.
Only thing is that rangefinder needs adjustment. horizontal is qiute ok but not perfect, and the vertical needs regulation for sure. Can you give me some links to step by step regulation of rangefinder in this camera (vertical and horizontal). Google gives many links but most of them to zorki or earlier feds models.

Welcome to the forum! and congrats on your first RF camera. Those are both good lenses you have. I just got a J-9 myself and cant wait to see the results
adjusting: If you remove the nameplate there should be a hole for adjustment. Set lens to infinity, put a little screwdriver in there and adjust the infinity. Then check the close focus at 1m. If its not correct, take off the lens - you have to adjust the little RF-arm using pliers carefully. Then check the infinity again, and do these steps again if necessary until it focuses correctly both close and far. at least thats how I do it.

O sorry, this was for horizontal adjustment.
for vertical - there is a ring around the RF window (under the nameplate) that needs to be turned a little.

No worries! I followed his instructions & found it to be pretty easy... It's actually a bit of fun feeling like you fixed one of your own cameras.
Cheers!

All rigth horizontal seems now perfect but i got problem with vertical. The colar that should be rotated seems to be glued or sth
I'm affraid to use more force to move it in case i could do some damage (slipped screwdriver or sth). What are your suggestions?

you have to be careful, it must move. (that one is risky) bring your screw driver in position and strike it with a tiny hammer (be really really careful) that should help. a spanner would be the perfect tool.

But should it rotate or jus move up or down (the colar)?

rotate, screw out

Actually I think the vertical laignment isn't a screw - there is no thread. So perhaps just somehow rotate it. Maybe you will have to scrape off the glue first. But be careful. I managed to scratch the glass on the RF window. :bang: It isn't visible when focusing, but on display it doesn't look very attractive

Ok folks thank you all for help! No hammer was needed
I levf camera for the night and the glue juz gave up (mabye cause of moisture or sth). Now rangefinder is perfect on both lenses so i think its calibrated good. Going for some pics in a minute
