Inspired by Sean and others talking about classic lenses, I just got my 50/2.8 Elmar collapsible LTM. Initial tests suggest (i) very soft wide open, (ii) absolutely wonderful for B/W. Sample attached.

Now I need to find a hood - it looks to me like the current Elmar-M 50/2.8 hood should fit.

Cheers,
Kirk

The B&W tonality is beautiful isn't it? I shot for much of the summer using the Canon 28/2.8 outdoors. Enjoy!

Friends,

Many thanks - I hope you had a good Christmas.

I attach a photo of the lens & R-D1. The DC street scene I attached earlier was shot at f/8 so I would expect good sharpness. My problems wide open may be linked to a fairly serious front focus issue - probably some combination of rangefinder accuracy and the lens. I will start a new thread about this issue, since I certainly need some advice.

Best wishes for the new year!

Kirk
