My First Go, how did I do?

Took the new camera out on saturday and photographed a friend and her cob bumble. I am not much good at selecting so have linked to my blog for greater ease! I took rather a lot so this is about half the ones I wish to share as it is.

I want to choose a few to put in a photo book for her, any help?

I have to agree with alice on that third one down being the best. The blacks are a little heavy though, I can't see the horses eye.

I also like the one you posted the best. However, the overo has wonderful dark red coloring
that would be nice to include someway in your 'best' image.

I liked the shots, it was obviously a fun day and your friend Estelle and her Cob have a genuine affection which you have captured, it really shows through in your shots. I like the one you posted in the thread above a lot but also :

I think there was one real 'nearly' shot, this one :

IMHO you'd have nailled it if you had Estelle's eyes in shot looking at Bumble, maybe one to try next time!?

Yes, I agree. Its a good situational portrait, I know I would have (wrongly, perhaps) cut the DOF down, but I think this shot with a greater depth of field works well...

Lots of good shots here. I'd leave out the more obvious ones and go for the ones where it shows her close relationship with horser and cat. Just my one cents worth.

A few of them would have been improved if the horizon didn't cut right through the middle of the subject--like if you had been taking pictures from horseback yourself.

I think I know what you mean...could you show me one particular example?

Sure, this one, from above:

It's often the problem with pictures taken from a regular standing position--here the horizon bisects the horse's face. I think you instinctively know to avoid this though as you seem to have tried a lot of different positions, like crouching in the grass and so on. But when you start doing this for money, you know, get up on the fence too, and ride next to your subject, if you can!
