My first 'what is that camera? Is it a Leica?'

I was once asked if my Kiev is a Minox.

"No, it's a real camera" 🙂

I've been asked plenty of times "what's that?" As for mistaken identity:
a. Is my Bronica S2A a Hasselblad
b. Is my Konica IIIa a Leica
c. Is my Yashicamat a Rollei
d. Is my Yashicamat a Leica
e. Is my Contax IIa a Leica
f. Is my RB67 an enormous black block of rock that I have to lug around because I've done something very bad in a prior life

I've only had the "is it a Leica" once, and that was with a 6x6 folder.

The Kiev's have gotten comments and looks, but no one's mistaken it for a Leica yet.

Suposedly, any RF shuld be a Leica and any SLR should be a Nikon, at least for many people who know nothing about shooting something different than any discardable reloadable camera.

The most usual question I receive from anyone asking about the cameras I have is (when seeing my pictures) How many Mpiexels does it have? andf if a do use PS for the final touch.

When they get the answer: not so many, just about 20... they say: OMG!!!!!! then later I explain that it´s (fortunately) not a digi scrap. And I don´t use PS for anything.

Twice in one day, recently, at the Salamanca markets in Hobart. A young fellow came running up to me from several meters away to check out my M4 - he recognised it but had never seen a Leica in the flesh. Turns out he is a foreign student at the university. He was thrilled to be allowed to look through the viewfinder. Later a man selling lovely poster prints (Tasmanian landscapes of course) said as I walked into his display "Oh thank goodness - someone shooting film!" He was an Olympus fan from way back.
