I like the idea because I'm used to the belly-button POV of TLRs, but I wonder if the reliability of the joint could be an issue as it was in some R-D1s.

I don't think it will a problem if Fuji decides to implement one. Most of the modern cameras that have them are pretty sturdy. I haven't heard of a large spread problem regarding tilt swivel LCDs in a long time.

Sony NEX and Samsung NX have their screens flush with everything else.

You might be right, but they get so much else wrong.
