OK, here's my excuse to boastfully post pictures of my kid, whose new band played their first gig last night. I myself have never had a first gig remotely as intense or well-attended as this one (>60 people). I'm super proud. They were deafening.

These were all shot at 6400 and processed in LR. I am going for a high-contrast classic punk rock look, as you can see. It is hard to focus on a punk band in the dark. I tried three methods: center-point AF, face detection, and manual focus. Manual worked best! But the next rock show I shoot, I will be trying the new X-T1 firmware, and maybe AF will be improved.

Incidentally, this show is part of Ithaca Underground, a loose organization of local musicians, mostly kids, who play all-ages shows in unconventional spaces. They are the greatest. I wish I'd had a community growing up like my son does...my musical upbringing happened in venues my friends couldn't come to, and there was nobody to tell me I looked ridiculous in that white fedora.

Nobody should have been at my first punk venue. not exactly safe or family-friendly if you know what I mean. many more opportunities seem to available nowadays.
Great. Fun images. still enjoy that music, even in my old age. drives my kid crazy. :)

Heck yeah! Nice shots. Does their band have a Bandcamp or something? Big fan of DIY punk here, your kid is lucky to have a parent who's interested and supportive of their work :)

First: congrats on your kids playing music!
Second: congrats you take time to photograph them.
Third: congrats about the quality of the pictures, there is something special in them. Life, energy, I can almost hear all of them!

I think your ability and your gear helped a lot, but more important your connection with the subject, your relationship made possible this excellent result. Bravo!
