My Kiev still rocks!

Hi everyone!
This forum made me "revive" my 1970 Kiev 4a.
My dad bought it from a neighbour of ours in 1982 and the last time I used it was in 1996. Since then I've been in the kingdom o SLR using a Nikon F301 (N2000), Minolta 500si and 800si. Some months ago I went digital with the Panasonic FZ20 and it's Leica Vario Elmarit lens.
But I've learned everything with this Kiev, so I went and put a roll of Ilford XP2 through it. Just got my scans from the lab today, And I'm proud of rusky baby. The Jupiter 8M looks in great shape to me.
What do you think?

Cheers!

I sure like the feel of my Kiev 4 (Black), I just wish its viewfinder was a little better. I wear glasses and find it a little hard to use. I use an aux viewfinder a good solution because I use the 35mm jupiter as my main lens.

Leo, I've got a Black Kiev also, a 4a. Was yours a factory black, or was it an aftermarket paint job. I can't tell on mine, but its looks as good as a factory, so it could go either way. My guess though, is that its a nicely done paint finish.

Nuno welcome to the forum! :) Nice pics! Do you remember the apertures by any chance?

Let's play a game. I'm going to guess that the top photo was taken at about f5.6, maybe f8 tops. The bottom one was pretty much wide-open, f2 maybe f2.8 tops, and the subject was about 5 feet away.

What's your guess?

Best Regards,

Thanks for all your nice comments.
You've guessed well Bill. I'm pretty sure that the aperture on the first one was 5.6 and the speed 1/50. As for the second one it is written on top of it, but it was f2.
We have a winner ladies and germs!

I like the pic, Nuno. Now, go up the hill, go to the park at the very top of the electrico. Nice view of o Castelho, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Man, I MISS Lisbon something FIERCE!

Stephen,

I got mine from another Russian user who said he got the camera from Fedka. I think that I have read where Yuri say he had a "Craftsman" in the Ukraine who painted his cameras. A very nice looking camera and always draws looks from other camera users when I have it out. I can see only slight wear on the edges. I put some leather shields on the straps so the lugs don't scar the paint.

A really fun camera with high quailty.
