All this M8 crap is making me nervous. Before it's too late all I really want is an MP, and I'm ready to order. I'll worry about selling an M3 and the M6 later.
What I really want is chrome, an .85 viewfinder, vulcanite (not that black emery cloth sand paper), the raised VF eyebrows, and the M3 rewind crank. No kits, Leicavits, LHSA, or ostrich skin.
And this side of the pond. US fine, Canada better.
Can anyone steer me to the right seller?

I'd take a demo or minty used one, but if it's my last camera I want it to be what I want....I was hoping not to go a la carte, but it seems it might be necessary. I don't even own a 28mm, and I do too many family portraits with a 90mm to be happy with a .72 VF.....I guess I'd consider a .72 but I'd have to get a 1.25 magnifier. Growing up with an M3's .91 I guess I'm spoiled. I can live without the raised VF eyebrows (just being finicky), but I don't like the sandpaper....

I have a 0.85 mag M7 and love it for lenses >=50mm. I can use my 35mm lens with it too. You may get something very close to what you want but perhaps not the vulcanite; you may have to do that when you get it - maybe 3rd party. I would post a WTB ad in as many places as you can, including photo.net and dealers. I've had good luck buying stuff from PN.

Yup,

Tony Rose, Popflash Photo, he's the man you're after.
I purchased my Chrome, .72 MP from him last year, great guy to deal with.
And you will live the MP!

Cheers,
kf

Tony contacted......he's got a couple with the .72VF in chrome. Not exactly what I want but it's the old "this is what I want" vs. "don't be a spoiled brat" argument I'll be sleeping on tonight.

With all the options you want, a-la-carte is your best bet. Its hard enough trying to find a used MP for sale, much less one with the .85 finder. Getting one with vulcanite will also be very difficult. You can always have Leica change it out later, or go with CameraLeather.com

In any case, I agree, you will absolutely LOVE your MP, I know I love mine! Mine is boxed up and ready to be shipped overnight to DAG tomorrow so I can have the 75 and 135 framelines removed. I'm already having withdrawls!

He called me the minute i t came in and assures me he hasn't opened the box. It's Black Chrome w/ the .85 (a la carte) finder and M3 winder of course. Now listen....Tony can arrange for a 20% discount!!! if you are taking a college course Leica magnanimously offers we poor starving students a price break. I happen to be taking a photo class so I will now be a proud MP shooter w/ a 5 year passport warranty for about the same price as a minty M7 or stock MP. He's a delightful fellow and offers terrific service!!! Buy your MP from him. He deserves the business. I may have to save the color printing course until I afford the Noctilux!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm only 48....I don't expect to kick anytime soon. I just figured since dad's M3 works great since 1955, and that's 50 years, I should be covered with an MP.🙂
If there's one thing I learned from this M8 debacle, it's that it's a helluva lot easier to stain film with light than it is to convert light into ones and zeros and make it all make sense at the end. For me, digital is like the transporter on Star Trek.
And the fact that I could hide the purchase from my wife if it looked exactly like my M3 had nothing to do with it, swear.

Hey, I'm 21 and I see my MP as the last film camera I'll need to buy! 🙂

I had the same thoughts as you.
And sold my digital SLR Nikon D2H,
bought a simple Leica MP.
Is it realy my last camera?
We'll see some years later.

On is true,
the MP is the cream of the crop.
There's nothing more you can buy.
And no software,
no elektronik except lightmetering.

And hopfully she will last for ever.

Good luck!

Be a spoiled brat.

Take you time and look for that .85 viewfinder that you want. It will pop up. It took me over a month to find the chrome M6 that I wanted, and I had sold all of my bodies at the time, so I was in serious withdrawal. If I had "settled" for something different though....
