My latest acquisitions of cameras

Here are my latest acquisitions: (in no particular order)

1. Leica Standard from 1934 with a 50mm Elmar lens
2. Konica II with the Hexanon 50/2.8
3. Konica C35 with the Hexanon 50/2.8
4. Retinette IA with the Schneider 45mm/2.8
5. Moskva5

The Leica Standard was obtained as a trade. It is rather rare and it is very light and compact. It has no rangefinder or even viewfinder. Like a "Bessa L-Leica".

I traded a mintish Canon VI-L with a Canon 135mm lens for the Standard Leica. The Konica II is a very nice looking rangefinder camera with an art-deco front and a sharp Hexanon lens. I am more and more regressing backwards to simplicity in photography. Maybe the Standard will open up new perspectives for me.

people here, and perfectly understandable. Sometimes operating a modern camera
is like sticking your head in a pinball machine--all the racket, thrashing about, lights
blinking on and off--it's torture.

I have less and less time for photography these days, so I want to enjoy the few hours each week or so by focusing on photography and not on equipment. This is the oldest 35mm camera I have so far. The Elmar 50/3.5 is also a rather old lens.

I know what you mean; I already have an old 8x10 camera that has a radioactive lens. I used a Geiger counter to check what the level of the radioactivity is. It has a huge 362mm/1.66 lens. I will donate the camera and three lenses to the Physics Department in my university.

I also understand the quest for simplicity. The more I think about it, I got into rangefinders 16 or 17 years ago as a kind of personal quest for simplicity because the rest of the photo department was switching over to Nikon F4s, and I just considered them too obscene for the kind of quiet shooting I prefer.

No "Hah" is in place here. Read carefully my posting on stopping any purchases. It is targeting March. We are in February. Also, the only newly obtained camera is the Leica and in that case no money was exchanged. I think, I am fine here.

you're trying to sneak by on a technicality.

buying or acquiring makes no difference as your original point was to focus on taking photos and not on the equipment.

you even engaged in a comparison of rff and p.net saying how much more THEY were into photography and WE were into the gear.
and now you flaunt more gear and say it is in the name of simplicity and somehow this makes you closer to the truth of photography.

seems to me you want it both ways...which is your business but it makes the preaching a bit harder to take.

No, I am a university professor. Would you rather keep the Canon VI-L? I have until the end of March to reverse the trade.

Reverse the trade and damn the consequences! The VI-L rocks! The Standard is just cool because it's old and basic, but the Canon can actually hold it's own with an M3.

Raid , don't let them shake you. Everything changes every day except Republicans and Conservatives... (humour) So go with the first rule of the universe don't fight it. Let them fight their conservative philosophy. Go buy what ever you want. Change your mind , if anyone has a problem , well it is their problem.

Remember first you're born and then you die. So have fun.

BTW if you want to recant I'll pick up the lot for $50.00 ... what do think?? (humour)
