While Luigi half-cases are great, they are also quite expensive. Anyone know of a solid, affordable half-case for a Leica II? Ideally it would accommodate both my black Leica II D (which lacks strap lugs) and my 'newer' IIC. So it would have to attach via the tripod mount. I want the case for walking about on a sunny day and capturing that quick 'moment' that flees if you hesitate:-> Hope this makes some sense!

And yes, I have the original case and don't care for it particularly. Thanks.

"Don't care for it" in what respect?
If it is an original case for a II (without the cutout for the slow speed dial) which won't accommodate the strap lugs of your IIc, there's someone here looking for one. If it's a III case it will fit both.
And if you don't care for it you won't mind taking a sharp knife and cutting the threads holding the flap in place. You can always re-attach it at a later time.
This solution is lot cheaper than a Luigi, completely authentic and will protect your precious camera.

True..., if you have an original II case, in good condition, I'll be happy to take it off your hands...

Taking a knife to it... gulp

Thanks Simon... This is a good idea. I'll take a look at the case again when I get home. For the original case, the bottom half is in better shape than the top half anyway. The seams on the top half are starting to split!

OP, Huub,

My black paint Leica II from 1932 happily lives in the bottom half of a pre-war FED case, I cut the top half off when it started falling apart.

Looks like a real Leica II case and fits it like a glove.

You can ask Russian sellers about an old case with the 'old style' FED logo, not the curly one but the square logo. Should have one snap at the rear, not two. And a shallow nose. Sometimes they have them and are happy to sell them if they do. For reference, eBay sale #370286097991 has the right case but with a camera included so it's pricey.
