I had posted about this a few months ago.
Sent one to James Tocchio, he put it on his CLE, and wrote this article.

Viewfinder looks very good, and the writeup is excellent. I'm gonna try it. Thanks!

Rad. looks comically oversized on the iii...
cyanoacrylate (super) glue can offgas and fog clear plastics - so maybe not the optimal choice for gluing together a viewfinder?

Looks great. Well done. More balanced looking on the IIIf than the SBLOO. Looks great on the little CLE. I bought one of your iPhone cases.

It's a great design, and I happen to have a couple of Owls sitting around, but why don't I see the finder on the Metro Case site?

Nice clever job.

There are two drops of glue that are placed in two holes, with pins on the top piece that fit into those holes. Other glue could be used if preferred.

SBLOO is relatively huge and heavy by comparison

A page is in progress!
Thanks for the phone case comments, that was unexpected.

Excellent work, read that article today. Did not know it was because of you!

It is OK to do if the Canon OWL camera is a broken clunker, why ruin a working camera that could become a cult classic in a few years especially if it is used in a Hollywood movie scene. FSU Rostock 35mm VFs are not much more than 50 dollars.
I did something similar in the early 1990s with a donor VF from a broken OLY XA 1 camera and a hand filed brass VF body.

In the meantime, you purchase the two parts separately here on Shapeways site.

Can you suggest a good adhesive for use near optical parts? One that does not outgas and fog?
The drop of glue is infinitesimally small.
Here is a close up of a prototype, showing the alignment pin on the top piece, and the hole where the pin fits into, and were the drop of glue is placed.
Tripod screw for size reference...
The top cover weighs but 2 grams, not much glue is needed.

I did a similar (but much uglier) conversion of an Olympus Trip 35 viewfinder for my Fuji mirrorless and 27mm lens (40mm equivalent).
Unfortunately, I used too much glue and caused extensive fogging.

I missed the original post here, but caught it on Fuji X. It took a few months to get around to assembling the parts, but I finally got it done a few days ago. It makes for a very nice VF!

Robert, yes I see that. I'm still interested in knowing about adhesives that won't outgas. More for other projects than for assembling your viewfinder (which I look forward to doing.)
