My Lynx 14e has Arrived!

Hi everybody,

The Lynx 14e that I got from eBay arrived this morning after a long trip around the globe. Considering its age and the price paid, I found it to be in good shape (it came with an UV filter and the original case).

The camera feels nice'n heavy in my hands, and certainly a lot smaller that I was imagining (it must be because I am used to carry around one of those big Fuji MF RFs).

Rangefinder, shutter and winding mechanism seem to be working fine, but I have not tested the light meter yet, because I don't have proper batteries.

The only problem is the battery compartment door, which has been replaced with a flimsy black aluminium threaded plate coming from another camera. It is likely that my Lynx suffered from battery leakage and the battery compartment door must have been damaged in an attempt to force it open. So the previous owner put a replacement door that doesnt fit properly (the thread is slightly damaged).

Would anybody on this forum have a replacement door for sale? Or could anybody point me to a place where those things might be available?

You are going to enjoy the Lynx for available light photography. Don't forget to get yourself a good lens hood for shooting in daylight . The Lynx is noted for lens flare shooting towards the sun.

check aperture blades, if they work ok, my 14e has bent pin on aprture ring. it can be bent easily i think, a litle too much force on aperture ring is enough.
my lightemeter also didn't work at first, white wire from battery chamber was dateched from corrosion. i fix that, now works ok (i just put 6v photo battery in, seems to work just fine), only sign for under exsposure doesn't lit up, i guess it's the same problem with wires.
my biggest problem now is viewinder, i did cleean the optics, but found out that coating on semi mirror is gone, at least in the center. it does wipe out easy, best thing to leave it alone or be very gentle, don't use any fluids etc.
i'm realy frustrated about my viewfinder it is most important thing for good and easy photography. i'm hopeng to get some sort of replacement or try to fix it somehow (some sort of foil or marker pen, anything). if somebody know how to handle this, pls help.

hmm, i was hopening that there's still hope for beamsplitter, but i did excpect answer like this, thnx, g. yes, i know about 2.7 volt thing, but 6v battery was only way to check light meter at that time, i will get proper battery juice later. strange, but with 6v it meters just fine, i did check resuolts witm my 300d and 50/1.8 lens and it was spot on. so i can. only guess that 2.7 v won't work ok. troubles again, hehe.
any beamsplitters for sale, g-man?

ok. maybe it is better to replace whole rangeifinder unit, since that splitter is rely well glued on the thing, it will take a lot of effort to replace it correctly, i think.
ups, i forgot that u're from states, g. must check shippmet costs. i guess only that will be same amount of money which cost me whole camera.
p.s. just o thought: is there any chance to make that semi reflective coating by myself? i was thinking something like on those police sun glasses etc, maybe i can peal off coating and put that on splitter. probably bad idea, i know..

I have discovered that I have a broken flapper. Where once it flapped mightily, now it just kind of floops. Might you have one of those laying about?

Bill, It finally came to me where I knew that name from (El Guapo). Your avitar certanly looks the part and I love the t-shirt. After the testimonials and reading your review on the Lynx 14E, I had to order one. It hasn't come in yet. You say it leaves the 45/1.7 on the Electro series lens in the dust huh? I think the bokeh may be a little nicer.

I think you'll like the Lynx - it's a great camera and fun to use. Feels good in the hand as well, with that big honking lens. I would not say it leaves the Electro in the dust - but it is a) faster, b) manually controlled, and c) yes, I believe it is sharper. Even if only just - and I have a lotta love for the Electro GSN. I think Yashica basically spent a boatload of money on this one, trying to prove a point, no doubt.
